General information about Coreopsis: With her beautiful sunny flowering blooms, nothing says summer like Coreopsis. She is excellent for borders and edging or used in mass plantings as a bright blanketing groundcover. In fact, the brilliant yellow blooms make lovely cut flowers, so most people find themselves returning for more! Coreopsis is also a winner because she attracts butterflies and her seeds attract birds to your garden. She is known for spreading by stolons, yet she isn’t invasive. Easily grown in well drained, average to dry soil, Coreopsis will also tolerate poor soil, humidity, seashore, and even grows on slopes. Gardener Tips If spent flowers are regularly deadheaded, sparse and intermittent repeat blooming may continue throughout the summer and into fall. In hot, summer climates, plants often stop blooming in mid-summer with a rebloom occurring in fall when temperatures become more moderate. Plants may be sheared in mid to late summer to tidy their appearance and promote a fall rebloom. |
