With a name like 'Moonbeam', this variety of Coreopsis verticillata will immediately bring to mind the lovely buttery yellow shade of a summer moon. Moonbeam certainly will not disappoint with her abundant, romantic, lemony, daisy-like flowers (1 1/2 - 2 inch) that glow in late afternoon and early evening as though they are thousands of tiny moons hanging suspended over mounds of her lacey green foliage.

Not only are these gorgeous flowers produced in massive quantities, leaving your garden resplendent with color, they also form in succession throughout the summer up to the arrival of frost in mid to late autumn without deadheading or any other attention. It must also be said though, that with its delicate, needle-like, breathy beauty, Moonbeam's foliage alone is worth placing her in your garden as the perfect contrast to more 'solid' plants, dense leaf canopies, or bigger, bolder flowers.

Moonbeam is at its best when spilling over the front of beds and borders, thus softening hard lines. Most easily grown in well-drained average to dry soils, native to the eastern United States. Moonbeam is good for erosion control, has a moderate to fast growth rate, and prefers full sun.

Interesting Fact
In 1992, it was named Perennial Plant Association's 'Perennial of the Year'.

General information about Coreopsis:
With her beautiful sunny flowering blooms, nothing says summer like Coreopsis. She is excellent for borders and edging or used in mass plantings as a bright blanketing groundcover. In fact, the brilliant yellow blooms make lovely cut flowers, so most people find themselves returning for more!

Coreopsis is also a winner because she attracts butterflies and her seeds attract birds to your garden. She is known for spreading by stolons, yet she isn’t invasive. Easily grown in well drained, average to dry soil, Coreopsis will also tolerate poor soil, humidity, seashore, and even grows on slopes.

Gardener Tips
If spent flowers are regularly deadheaded, sparse and intermittent repeat blooming may continue throughout the summer and into fall. In hot, summer climates, plants often stop blooming in mid-summer with a rebloom occurring in fall when temperatures become more moderate. Plants may be sheared in mid to late summer to tidy their appearance and promote a fall rebloom.
