Plant it where it will receive full sun to part shade. In hotter climates, give it light afternoon shade for best leaf color and easier watering, while still allowing enough sun for strong rebloom.

Set your azalea in well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Mix in organic matter at planting, keep the root flare at or slightly above grade, and mulch with 2-3 inches of pine bark or pine straw to help hold moisture and protect shallow roots.

Water deeply after planting and keep moisture consistent through the first growing season. Once established, water during dry spells, especially in summer heat or during bud set, since drought stress can reduce bloom cycles and cause leaf scorch.
