Common Juniper 'Alpine Carpet®' (Juniperus communis 'Alpine Carpet®') is a low, spreading evergreen that gives you year-round structure and cool blue-green color. You can use it as a durable groundcover in rock gardens, along walkways, or on sunny slopes where you want a tidy, carpet-like look.
Give it full sun for the tightest growth, though it will also handle part shade. Plant it in well-drained soil; once established it is generally easy to maintain. Water regularly the first season to help roots settle in, then water as needed during extended dry spells.
This selection stays compact, typically 6-10 inches tall, and slowly spreads to cover 36-48 inches. Space plants to allow room for their mature width and to keep airflow around the foliage. Its prostrate habit makes it especially useful to soften edges of stonework or to drape gently over a low wall.
Pruning is minimal. In late winter or early spring, simply remove any winter-damaged tips or stray shoots to keep the mat even. Because it is evergreen, it provides dependable winter interest and a clean, finished look in every season.
