Place your plant in full sun for the strongest growth and best flowering. In too much shade, it can become looser and bloom less. Choose soil that drains well; average garden soil is fine, and the plant typically adapts to many soil types as long as it is not constantly soggy. Water regularly while it is getting established, then water deeply during dry spells rather than giving frequent light sprinklings.

Blooms are produced on new growth, so you can prune in late winter or early spring before new growth starts. Cutting back helps keep the shrub compact and encourages fresh shoots that will flower.
