Give your plant average, moist, well-drained soil. Slightly acidic soil is ideal, but the plant is adaptable when drainage is good. Mulch to keep roots cool and evenly moist, especially during establishment, and water during dry spells until the root system is well developed.

Site it in full sun to part shade. In warmer-summer areas, a location with some afternoon shade can help reduce leaf scorch and stress. Protecting the plant from drying winter winds can also improve winter appearance and reduce desiccation damage.

Mature size is typically about 10-12 feet tall and 6-8 feet wide, so plan spacing with its eventual spread in mind. Prune in late winter if you need to shape a hedge or maintain a tighter outline; this plant responds well to selective trimming once established.

Like many hollies, Meserve holly cultivars may be male or female. If you want showy berries, be sure you have a compatible male pollinator nearby and at least one female plant in the planting. Leaves and fruit can be mildly toxic if eaten in quantity, so place thoughtfully around pets and children.
