Blue Holly 'Castle Rouge®' (Ilex × 'Castle Rouge®') brings bold, year-round structure with standout winter color. You get a dense, upright broadleaf evergreen holly with glossy dark green foliage that emerges with red tones and can deepen to rich burgundy in cold weather. Expect a mature size of about 5-8 ft tall and 4-5 ft wide, making it a strong choice for hedges, screening, and foundation plantings.

Plant it in full sun to part shade for best density and color. Provide average moisture in well-drained soil, and keep a 2-3 inch mulch layer over the root zone to help conserve moisture and protect roots from temperature swings. Like many hollies, it performs best in slightly acidic soil and appreciates consistent watering during its first season while it establishes.

Castle Rouge is a male blue holly, so it does not produce showy berries on its own. Instead, it is valued as a pollinator for nearby female hollies (including other Castle series selections). Place it within about 50 ft of compatible female plants to help ensure pollination and fruit set on those females.

Maintenance is straightforward: prune after flowering if you need to shape, and avoid heavy shearing late in the season. Use this holly as a single specimen, a clipped hedge, or a mixed evergreen screen where you want dependable form plus dramatic winter foliage color.
