With its naturally rounded form, Thuja occidentalis 'Little Giant' gives you year-round structure without constant shaping. This compact arborvitae develops dense, bright green sprays that hold their color well and look polished in every season.
Plant it where you want a tidy, evergreen accent along walkways, at corners of beds, or in a low, repeating line that reads as a soft, green edging. Its mature size of about 36-48 inches tall fits nicely under windows and beside entry plantings without overwhelming the space.
For best performance, give it full sun to part shade and soil that drains well while staying evenly moist. Water deeply during the first growing season and during extended dry spells so the root zone does not dry out completely. A 2-3 inch mulch layer helps conserve moisture and protects shallow roots; keep mulch a few inches back from the stems.
Pruning is rarely needed, but you can lightly trim to refine the globe in late spring after the first flush of growth. Avoid cutting back into bare, leafless wood. In snowy areas, gently brush off heavy snow loads to keep the rounded shape intact, and site it out of harsh winter wind when possible.
