Create fast, vertical privacy with Thuja occidentalis 'Full Speed a Hedge®', a narrow, columnar arborvitae selected for dense foliage and strong screening. You can use it as a living fence along property lines, to frame a garden room, or to soften views without taking up much width. Mature size is typically about 180-240 inches tall with a slim footprint, making it a great fit where space is limited.

For best results, plant in full sun; it will also grow well in part shade, especially where afternoons are hot. Choose a site with well-drained soil, and water deeply after planting to settle the root ball. During the first growing season, keep the root zone evenly moist so it establishes quickly. A 2-3 inch mulch layer helps conserve moisture and moderates soil temperature; keep mulch a few inches away from the trunk.

Once established, maintain a steady watering routine during dry spells to keep growth dense and foliage color strong. If you want a crisp hedge line, lightly shear or tip-prune as needed; avoid cutting back into bare, brown wood. A single early-season trim is often enough, but you can touch up later for a more formal look.
