North Pole arborvitae (Thuja occidentalis 'North Pole') gives you a tall, narrow evergreen column that fits where wider screens will not. You get dense, deep-green sprays that hold color well through winter and create strong vertical structure in beds, borders, and along property lines.
Plant it in full sun to part shade for best density. Give your new shrub regular watering the first season so roots establish, then water as needed during dry periods. A 2-3 inch mulch layer helps keep soil moisture more even; keep mulch a few inches back from the trunk.
At maturity it typically reaches about 10-15 ft tall and about 3-5 ft wide, so plan spacing with its narrow footprint in mind. It works well as a tight hedge or repeated accents, and it also looks polished as a single specimen near an entry or corner planting.
For the cleanest form, you can shear lightly once a year, timing it after the first flush of new growth. In exposed, windy sites, consider winter wind protection to reduce tip drying. It is hardy in USDA zones 3-7 when planted in well-drained soil.
