Blue Prince is a male Meserve hybrid holly (Ilex × meserveae 'Blue Prince') valued for its dense, upright habit and glossy, spiny, blue-green evergreen foliage. Use it as a foundation shrub, hedge, or screen where you want year-round structure and winter interest.
Set it in full sun to part shade; in hotter summers, your plant will appreciate some afternoon shade. Provide moist, well-drained soil that stays slightly acidic, and mulch to keep roots cool and evenly moist. Once established it is fairly adaptable, but it looks best with consistent moisture and protection from drying winds.
Because this is a male plant, it will not produce showy berries. Instead, plant it near a compatible female blue holly such as 'Blue Princess' so it can pollinate and help set fruit on the female plant. Space plants to allow mature width (about 6-7 ft) and good air flow.
In USDA Zones 5-7, site it out of harsh winter wind and winter sun to limit leaf scorch. Prune in late winter to shape, and avoid heavy shearing if you want a more natural, dense form.
