Thuja × plicata 'Junior Giant' is a compact, upright evergreen arborvitae valued for fast privacy in spaces where larger thujas would be too big. You get dense, layered sprays of rich green foliage that hold color well through the seasons, forming a narrow, conical screen with a refined texture.
Plan for a mature size around 15-20 feet tall and roughly 8-10 feet wide, depending on site and pruning. Use it as a hedge, living fence, or specimen, and give each plant enough room to fill in without crowding. It performs best in full sun, but it will also grow well in part shade, especially where summers are hot.
For easiest success, plant in moist, well-drained soil and water deeply during the first growing season while roots establish. After establishment, provide supplemental water during extended dry spells to maintain the best density and color. A 2-3 inch mulch ring helps conserve moisture and moderates soil temperature; keep mulch a few inches back from the trunk.
This arborvitae is naturally tidy and typically needs little pruning. If you shear for a formal hedge, do light trimming once or twice during the growing season and avoid cutting back into bare wood. Site it where it has good air flow, and protect young plants from heavy snow load with gentle tying if needed in winter.
