Phlox 'Volcano® Purple With White Eye' is a compact garden phlox selection that fills the middle of the border with bold, bicolored summer color. You will get tight clusters of purple blooms, each with a crisp white eye that reads clearly from a distance and looks great in mixed beds and cutting gardens.

Plant it where it receives full sun to part shade; more sun generally means sturdier growth and heavier flowering, while light afternoon shade can be helpful in hot-summer areas. Provide evenly moist, well-drained soil enriched with compost, and water at the base during dry spells to keep foliage looking fresh. A 2-3 inch mulch layer helps conserve moisture and keeps roots cooler, but keep mulch off the crown to avoid rot.

Give plants room for good air circulation and stake only if needed. Deadhead spent clusters to keep the display tidy and to encourage additional flowering. After the main flush, you can trim back by a few inches to refresh foliage and shape. In spring, cut back old stems to the crown as new growth emerges. Divide clumps every few years if vigor declines or the center thins.

This phlox pairs easily with coneflowers, black-eyed Susans, ornamental grasses, and other sun-loving perennials. Its saturated purple-and-white flowers also coordinate well with blues, pinks, and silvers, and it makes a strong accent in pollinator-friendly plantings.
