Rhododendron yak. 'Percy Wiseman' (Rhododendron 'Percy Wiseman') is a compact, broadleaf evergreen shrub grown for its spring flower show and tidy, rounded habit. In mid to late spring, pink buds open to soft pink blooms that fade toward creamy white, creating a layered, color-changing effect on each truss. Its dense foliage stays attractive year-round, making it a reliable anchor for woodland edges, foundation beds, and mixed shrub borders.
Give your plant morning sun and afternoon shade (or bright, dappled light all day) for best performance, especially where summers run hot. Consistent moisture is important, but the roots dislike soggy conditions, so choose a site with good drainage and rich organic matter. Like most rhododendrons, it prefers acidic soil; if your native soil runs neutral to alkaline, amend and monitor pH to keep foliage deep green and growth steady.
At maturity, expect a low, mounded form around 36-48 inches tall with a broad spread, so leave room for air circulation and to show off the dome shape. Mulch with pine bark or leaf mold to protect the shallow roots and moderate soil temperature. Water deeply during dry spells, and avoid letting the root zone bake in reflected heat near pavement or south-facing walls.
Prune only as needed, right after flowering, since next season's buds form later in summer. Remove spent flower trusses by hand to keep the plant neat and encourage energy back into growth. In colder areas, protect from drying winter winds and heavy sun on frozen ground for the healthiest evergreen leaves.
