You will get a tidy mound of foliage about 12-16 inches tall with a mature spread of roughly 36-42 inches, making it a strong mid-border accent and an easy filler for woodland-style plantings.

Give it part shade to full shade for best performance. Morning sun with afternoon shade is usually ideal, especially in warmer climates, while deeper shade works well where summer heat is intense. Consistent moisture helps keep leaves looking their best, but avoid sites that stay soggy through winter.

Plant in rich, well-drained soil and mulch to keep the root zone cool and evenly moist. Water deeply during dry stretches, and keep mulch pulled back slightly from the crown. Established plants can be divided in early spring as shoots emerge, or in early fall where summers are hot.
