Hosta × 'Guacamole' (Hosta 'Guacamole') is a bold, fragrant hosta grown for its glowing foliage and late-season flowers. You get a large, mounded clump of chartreuse to gold-centered leaves framed by dark green margins, creating strong contrast in shaded beds and borders.
In mid to late summer, tall scapes rise above the foliage with sweetly fragrant blooms that open white and may blush pale lavender. The flowers can draw hummingbirds and add extra interest when much of the shade garden is at its peak foliage display.
Plan for a mature size around 28-32 inches tall, with a broad, arching spread that makes a dramatic statement as a specimen or in mass plantings. Give it evenly moist, fertile, well-drained soil rich in organic matter; steady moisture helps keep the foliage looking its best through the season.
Light is flexible: place it in partial shade for strong color, or in deeper shade where the leaves stay fresh and full. If it receives any direct sun, keep the soil consistently moist and favor morning sun with afternoon shade. Mulch to conserve moisture, keep crowns just above the soil line, and divide clumps every few years if you want more plants or to refresh an older planting.
