With Hosta × 'Shadowland® Miss America', you get a dramatic, medium-to-large hosta that brightens shade with crisp white-centered foliage and reliable mid-summer bloom. It builds a dense, refined mound of heart-shaped leaves in a medium green with a luminous white center, then sends up tall scapes topped with near-white flowers that add extra height and seasonal interest.
Plant it where you want strong contrast in the shade garden: along paths, in woodland borders, beside steps (out of foot traffic), or as a focal clump under open-canopy trees. For best color and leaf substance, give it part shade to full shade. In cooler regions it can take more sun if soil stays evenly moist, but hot afternoon sun can scorch the light centers.
Provide moist, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Water deeply during dry spells, especially in spring and early summer when the clump is sizing up. A 2-3 inch mulch layer helps conserve moisture and keeps roots cool; keep mulch off the crown. Remove spent flower stalks if you prefer a cleaner look, and cut back foliage after frost once it yellows and collapses.
This hosta is easy to maintain and long-lived. Divide mature clumps in spring as shoots emerge or in early fall to share and to refresh crowded plantings. Watch for slugs and snails on new leaves, and protect young growth from browsing if deer or rabbits visit your garden.
