Grow Hosta × 'Shadowland Echo the Sun' for bold, golden foliage that lights up shady spots. You get a medium-to-large, mounded clump with thick, rippled leaves that hold color well through the season. In summer, lavender, bell-like flowers rise on scapes above the foliage for a soft, airy finish.
Plant it where you want dependable structure in part shade to shade, such as along paths, under open-canopy trees, or at the front of a woodland border. It pairs easily with ferns, heucheras, astilbes, and other shade perennials, and it also performs well in large containers with consistent moisture.
Expect a mature height of about 12-24 inches, with a generous spread of roughly 36-48 inches as the clump develops. Give it room so the foliage can form a full, symmetrical mound. Rich, moisture-retentive soil with good drainage helps it look its best; a spring top-dressing of compost is a simple way to improve performance year after year.
Water during dry stretches, especially in the first season and during hot summer weather. Keep the crown just at soil level, mulch lightly to moderate soil temperature, and remove spent foliage after it dies back. Divide established clumps when needed to refresh growth and share.
