English Climbing Rose 'Mary Delany®' (Rosa 'Mary Delany®') is a refined English climbing rose with long sprays of soft pink, shallow-cupped blooms that gradually reveal golden stamens. You will appreciate its nearly thornless canes, which make training and tying much easier than many climbers, and its light Old Rose fragrance with a subtle fruity note.
Give it a sunny spot for best flowering, while it will also perform in part shade (especially where afternoons are hot). Provide rich, well-drained soil and steady moisture while it establishes; once rooted in, keep watering deeply during dry stretches to support repeat bloom. Good air circulation and watering at the base help keep foliage looking its best.
At maturity it grows about 10-12 feet tall and stays relatively narrow at roughly 3-4 feet wide, making it a strong choice for fences, walls, obelisks, and arches where space is limited. You can also grow it as a tall shrub with light support. Tie long canes as horizontally as you can to encourage more flowering laterals along their length.
Prune in late winter to early spring by removing weak or congested stems and shortening side shoots to stimulate fresh flowering wood. Deadhead spent blooms through the season to extend the display, and mulch to conserve moisture and protect roots. In colder areas, secure canes before winter winds and mound mulch at the base for extra protection.
