Rosa 'Blanc Double De Coubert' is a classic rugosa-type shrub rose prized for its pure white, strongly fragrant blooms and rugged, low-fuss performance. You will get the best flowering and healthiest foliage in full sun with good air movement, but this plant is also valued for handling challenging sites once established.
Expect a dense, thorny, upright-to-arching shrub that matures around 48-60 inches tall with a similar spread. The distinctive, wrinkled (rugose) leaves give the plant a textured look even when it is not in bloom. In season, the white, semi-double to double flowers open repeatedly, and the plant can also offer seasonal interest with hips depending on conditions.
Plant in well-drained soil and water regularly the first season to establish roots. After establishment, it can tolerate drier periods and leaner soils better than many roses. It is also noted for tolerating coastal exposure and road-salt conditions, making it a strong choice for tough landscape spots where other roses struggle.
For care, keep mulch a few inches away from the canes and remove any fallen leaves to reduce disease pressure. Prune in late winter to early spring: remove dead or crossing canes and lightly shape, or reduce the plant by up to about one-third if it has outgrown its space. The heavy thorns also make it useful as a barrier planting; allow room so you can work around it safely.
